Shorts vs Other Platforms

You could post on TikTok or Instagram/Facebook Reels. So why YouTube Shorts specifically? Let's go through all the platforms:

TikTok:

  • Massive reach but have to live in a specific area to be able to apply (US, UK)

  • High chance of rejection due to reused content, since our style of video creation is by using highly viral clips that probably already is uploaded on TikTok

  • The app has faced bans and regulatory uncertainty in multiple countries, not stable ground to build a business on

Instagram Reels:

  • Good for personal brands and brand deals

  • The algorithm heavily favours accounts that already have an established following

  • Growing from zero is significantly harder than YouTube

  • They don't have a monetisation program

Facebook Reels:

  • Dying platform for this use case

  • Older demographic, low engagement on short form content

  • Not worth the effort when better options exist

Now let's talk about the best of all.

YouTube Shorts:

  • The only platform where you can go viral from zero AND earn serious AdSense revenue

  • RPM is way higher than any other platform depending on your niche

  • Your content compounds. A video posted a year ago still gets views and earns money today

  • Short form and long form work together on one channel, increasing overall revenue

For anyone building a content business focused on monetisation, YouTube is the only serious answer.

In the next lesson we break down exactly how the YouTube algorithm works so you can use it to your advantage from day one.
